Part 1

Take 1-2 hours to visit Museo Del Mundo at Camino del Libre. It is open to the public since April 1, 2010 and you may find some info about it on this forum or on blogs.

This is a house/museum/shop owned by an elderly German dude from Hamburg, Rolf Shultz.

Take a motoconcho or stroll up the hill 0.7 of a mile. This is a first road to the right from a Police station near a funeral home (right down it's telephone numbers, it's always fun to pass them on to any annoying or molesting party:rofl:)

Part 2

There is a small colmado near the house to buy drinks on a way back. Two haitians showed me the premises and I left 100 peso for upkeeping. Ample parking is available. It is cool inside. The house is more like a labyrinth with multiple starecases and open verandas. One of the pieces that I liked was around 50 lbs $700 hardwood sculpture. No matter you slice it but this house is one of the weirdoest I have ever seen.

Part 3

This place has a potential to turn into some sort of a attraction. Why not taking you haitian novia there for an hourly break instead of feeding her relentlessly at Bailey's?

There is a bed for a king and a throne in one of the upper rooms, a dungeon and many nooks and crannies...my imagination runs wild.

BTW, if you are asked why do you visit North Coast, now you may also say that recently you have been developing an interest in art and prove it with a set of nice photo shots.

Memorial meeting Rolf Schulz (http://www.sosuanews.com/index.php?id=5075&article=1)

A group of visual artists, for many years friend of the recently deceased Rolf Schulz, plan a memorial meeting in Castillo Mundo King on Saturday January 27th from 2 pm.

They do this in consultation with his daughter Mirja Kraemer. The artists Teddy Tejeda, Leo Diaz and Adolfo Faringthon will give a memorial speech about the deceased, a video about Dolf's life and his museum will be shown and there is a violin concert by the violin orchestra of Casa de Arte. Dolf's sister will be present, his two brothers and his daughter Mirja too. Furthermore plans will be announced to preserve this unique museum Castillo Mundo King for Sosúa. Anyone who feels involved in this project is welcome at this commemoration.

Castillo Mundo King's Rolf deceased (http://www.sosuanews.com/index.php?id=5070&article=1)

Rolf R. Schulz deceased on Tuesday, January 9th in Santiago. Rolf was born on August 27, 1942 in Thorn at the Weichsel, Germany. His mother was a virtuoso pianist and opera singer. His father was a constructor. Rolf went to college and and became a site engineer. He came up with a few improvements in concrete constructions. The cost of concrete constructions declined and patents were registered on his name. These inventions brought, he said, so much money that he could spend all of his time to his hobbies.

That was collecting Haitian and Dominican art in the form of sculptures and paintings. For this, he built a museum, Castillo Mundo King in Sosúa. He supported many Dominican and Haitian artists and let them exhibit their works in his museum. He also bought much of their artwork. His life's work was noticed by local and foreign media, and there have been made several articles and documentaries about his beautiful museum with its unique collection of artwork. Rolf passed away and we do not know what will happen with his legacy, his museum. We hope it will be maintained and gets a protected status. We wish Rolf's family and many friends a lot of strength to carry the loss of such a beloved resident of Sosúa. A number of (former) Sosúa residents, including Mirja Kraemer, soon will hold a memorial service at the museum. We hope to be able to report about it soon.
