Key man arrested in Customs officer case

First Instruction Court of the Province of Santo Domingo ordered that Luis Javier Silie Gonzalez (Birulina) be detained for a year after he admitted to driving the motorcycle used for the murder of Customs inspector Ramon Florentino, earlier this year. Prosecutors questioned him after he was arrested in the border province of Independencia. He confessed to participating in the crime. The case will continue to determine the supposed intellectual authors of the murder. Florentino, regarded as an exemplary Customs officer, was murdered at gunshot on 2 March of this year at the entrance of the Las Americas Expressway tunnel. He was on his way to his home in La Vega, after work at the Multimodal Caucedo Port. There has been speculation that his death is work related because of his lack of flexibility on import tax cases.
