The World Bank representative in the DR, Roby Senderowitsch, complained yesterday that the source of the greatest electricity theft and fraud is to be found among the "non-regulated" and wealthy. Likewise, he warned that the government would take measures to correct several distortions in the electricity distribution companies (EDEs), especially excess employees, financial losses and other aspects.
The World Bank (WB) representative stated that the Dominican government knows that this is a crucial issue for the country's future, and this is why they have defined some actions to be followed. He says that the World Bank, together with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), supports a reform plan for the electricity sector and this plan includes an improvement in the distribution companies.
Interviewed on the "Portada 15" TV show produced by journalist Miguel Guerrero, Senderowitsch made it clear that the international financial organizations will provide international experience and the experts who can support these improvements. "The first step for the new managers of the distribution companies should be to "collect for the electricity that they are providing". He said that stealing electricity "is a widespread phenomenon" and that the electricity issue "is crucial for the country's future and the Dominican government has defined steps to be taken towards this end".
