In the framework of the program of events planned for the celebration of Santo Domingo as American Capital of Culture 2010, the city is hosting the Sixth International Festival of Contemporary Dance (Edanco) from 22-29 September. Coming this year are dancers from Italy, Spain, Haiti and Brazil. Artistic director of the festival Edmundo Poy said that Edanco has played an important role in developing stage arts in the DR and stimulating local talent. "The festival is a space for developing the art of dance and bringing different stage and artistic genres to Dominican audiences," he said during the presentation of this year's event.
Local stars this year are Orestes Amador, Ileana Balmori, Victor Datt, Dayme del Toro, Hamlet Bodem and Tatiana Mejia. Coming from abroad are Helena Vieira of Brazil, Aikodans Cie of Haiti, Eleonora Bonvini of Italy and Transit Dansa from Spain.
The festival is taking place at the Palace of Fine Arts (Bellas Artes) from Monday to Saturday at 8:30pm and on Sunday at 6:30pm. Tickets are for sale at Bellas Artes for RD$250.
This year's sponsors include the Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of France, the Centro Cultural de Espana, the Centro Cultural de Brasil, the Alliance Francaise and Aster.
