Protests in Sabana de la Mar

Several community organizations have revved up demands for the repairs of the road linking Sabana de la Mar with Hato Mayor. They declared Public Works Minister Victor Diaz Rua persona-non-grata. Community organizations called a 24-hour transport strike on Thursday in demand for the construction of the road. They say the tourism potential of the province is being hindered by the poor condition of the highway. They complained that despite the fact that President Leonel Fernandez ordered the disbursement of RD$10 million a month needed to complete the repair to the road during a Provincial Government Council meeting held in Hato Mayor, no progress has been made.
