Ministry of Environment specialists have helped rescue a baby whale, believed to be aged between four and six months, found stranded on Playa Estero Balsa, in Manzanillo, in the northwestern province of Montecristi. The calf was caught in the mangroves of The Estero Balsa National Park. It suffered injuries to its fins and back of the head. The rescuers placed rescue jackets on the whale and transferred it to high seas. Biologist Juana Pena, who took part in the rescue, said that they had named the female calf "Juana", after her.
