Tax advisor sent to jail

Judge Jose Alejandro Vargas has ordered a three-month prison term for Victor Cecilio Contreras Infante, accused as the tax advisor of several companies involved in RD$500 million fraud against the Tax Department (DGII). Contreras was identified as economic advisor to Atlas Marine Caribbean, Consorcio Mata and Tharasia Import. Contreras is accused of advising the companies to purchase irregularly issued tax receipts.
