The Cultural Touristic Cluster of Puerto Plata (CTC-PP) has announced the signing of a co-financing agreement for US$474,000 for 11 development programs under the umbrella of the Interamerican Development Bank and the United States Agency for International Development's Fondec program. The Cluster created the Pro-Competitiveness Fund of Puerto Plata to secure the local matching funds for the implementation of the programs. Oscar Hungria, executive director of the Cluster said that the plan is to link business and civil sector investments with government investments in infrastructure currently under way. He mentioned that the projects include the handling of the marine coast of the beaches of Puerto Plata, Cofresi and Sosua; training of tourist boat captains; Green Globe 21 certification and training of local guides at the Damajagua Falls, as well as the feasibility studies and Blue Flag certification of the Costa Dorada beach.
The funds will also enable the hosting of cultural events such as the study of the metallic structure to convert the former Sanchez Chocolate factory into a tourism cultural center, restoration of 21 Victorian houses, and the creation of the Luperon, Victorian, Dominican Rum and Train Station museums in Puerto Plata.
