Once again the cry of "Oil" is being heard in some circles. Director General of Mining Octavio Jose Lopez Taveras has revealed that petroleum found near Sanate in the eastern province of La Altagracia is what the oil industry describes as "sweeter" than the oil found in the southwestern province of Azua. This means it has lower sulfur contents.
According to Diario Libre, the quality of the oil was certified by a UK company, GH Geochemical Services, Ltd. The oil's initial location was revealed by local farmers, who noticed the smell and reported it. Lopez Taveras said that the discovery "increases the importance of the east for oil exploration... probably to the same level or higher than the interest in the Azua area".
