American Airlines may suspend its flights to Puerto Rico next year, bowing down to competition from JetBlue, according to rumors reported in Diario Libre. AA operates one early morning and two afternoon flights from Santo Domingo to Puerto Rico. American Eagle has an additional two flights a day. The flights would be suspended as of April 2011. The measure, if implemented, would affect 120 employees who service the flights. Diario Libre was unable to confirm the story with AA general manager Oliver Bojos.
Corporate spokesperson Minette Velez told Diario Libre that their American Eagle flights would continue. American Eagle has two daily flights to Las Americas International Airport and American Airlines operates three flights a day. Jet Blue operates a daily flight on the route.
