President Leonel Fernandez was in California yesterday where he made a presentation on "Can Democracy Meet the Needs of the People of the Hemisphere?" at the Institute of the Americas on Monday, 27 September at the University of California, San Diego.
Fernandez also met with supplier companies that have expressed an interest in the Dominican market and other businessmen interested in doing business with the DR. President Fernandez is on a 13-day tour of the US that began last week in New York.
The Presidency reported that President Fernandez met with Michael Holleran of Direct Contact Media, Inc, a telemarketing company; Randy Teffeteller of BaggageDirect, a baggage security company; John Galt of GreenHouse Holdings, a publicly-traded government contracting and sustainable solutions provider; Brian Bonfiglio of Patronus International, a company involved in improving access control, guard force management and security program management for border security, port security, airport security and critical facilities security.
He also met with Jim Miller of ImageWare, a company that employs advanced biometric technology that allows users to identify a list of possible suspects by measuring distinct facial characteristics and executive strategy and communications consultant Bryan Kassing of BK Strategies LLC. Fernandez went on to meet with members of the San Diego Regional Minority Supplier Council interested in promoting travel to the DR from the US West coast. Others meeting with the president included James Wilson of Wilquest, a company that promotes trade with China, Hong Kong, Mexico and Taiwan, and CNN national security analyst Ken Robinson.
The director of the Center for Export and Investment in the DR (CEI-RD), Eddy Martinez said that the American businessmen told President Fernandez they are interested in visiting to continue the talks. Martinez said that a San Diego business mission would visit to follow up on the talks.
At the meeting, President Fernandez encouraged the businessmen to study opportunities for investing at the border between Haiti and the DR.
