During 2009, public hospitals report 385,037 medical procedures provided to foreigners, of whom 98% were Haitian. Some RD$400 million was spent on providing healthcare for Haitian patients, mostly illegal immigrants. The breakdown for the procedures was: 108,931 consultations, 104,441 lab tests, 84,211 emergencies, 13,574 hospitalizations, 40,653 vaccinations, 19,399 births (6,611 natural births and 2,203 C-sections), 1,456 surgeries and 1,224 blood transfusions. Of those treated, 334 died, most in border hospitals.
