Municipal crews in Santiago have started work on the removal of the traffic circle at the intersection between Estrella Sadhala and the Santiago Beltway (Circunvalacion), one of the major traffic bottlenecks in the city. Known as "the Fountain" when it was created over two decades ago, the traffic circle now represents a headache for all who need to pass through. According to Hoy, Santiago Mayor Gilberto Serulle has announced a series of public works that will be started during his first 100 days in office. Engineer Erving Vargas, who is in charge of the Municipal Office for City Planning, said that the new intersection will have digital stoplights powered by solar energy.
