Troops not going to Haiti

Armed Forces Minister Lieutenant General Joaquin Virgilio Perez Feliz has denied a report published in yesterday's El Dia that Dominican troops were training to join the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (Minustah) in its Haiti operations. Lt General Perez said that President Fernandez had sent specially trained troops to work under the Minustah after the earthquake in Haiti. Nevertheless, he made it clear that after the approval of the new Constitution, only the Senate can approve sending troops abroad, according to Article 80, paragraph 7.
