The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) said yesterday that the rains, thunderstorms and wind gusts associated with a low-pressure trough located to the southwest will continue to affect a large part of the country today. The low-pressure area became a tropical depression #16 and was located just to the south of Cuba. While the storm does not pose any risks to the Dominican Republic, it will provide a lot of moisture to the lower levels of the atmosphere over the country. Combined with a low-pressure ridge and winds from the east-southeast, TD #16 will cause a lot of rain over most of the country, especially the northeast, southeast, southwest, the central mountains and the border with Haiti. Local forecasts are for rains, mixed with thunder and lightning and occasional wind gusts over the southern half of the country and the frontier region.
The Punta Cana radar weather station is forecasting that light rain showers will continue through Saturday.
