The PLD majority Senate has chosen Felix Vasquez (PRSC-Sanchez Ramirez) as a member of the National Magistracy Council. Vasquez is an ally of the ruling PLD.
The council is responsible for choosing Supreme Court judges. Diario Libre reports that there had been speculation that Amable Aristy Castro, senator-elect for the province of La Altagracia, would take the post. Aristy, who was the only senator to win without a PLD alliance, has yet to be sworn in to Congress, despite his job being available since 16 August. Aristy is the current president of the Dominican Municipal League, a body that manages the funds assigned to city governments. As reported in Diario Libre, Vasquez said his election came as a surprise.
