Members of the Army Intelligence Division (G2) have arrested 13 people of different nationalities, mostly Cubans, who attempted to enter the DR illegally. The foreigners had crossed the border with Haiti. Brigade General Henry D Gomez Bueno said that the foreigners had traveled by boat from Cuba to Haiti and were then taken across the Dominican border. The foreigners who were arrested are Carlos Herrera Martinez, Almeida Delgado and Abilio Romero Cruz of Cuba, Dayma Perez Jerez from Ecuador, Welter Mencino from Italy, and Marcela Elisa Flecha Benitez from Paraguay. They were traveling to Santo Domingo in a Toyota SUV.
The military arrested a second group including four Cubans, Alexis Guilare Veras (with US residency), Ramon Guilare Carracedo, Rafael Toledo Segura and Jose Antonio Alvarez Gonzalez. They were traveling in a Toyota Starlet. Three Dominicans, Demetrio Bonifacio Rondon, Wellington Espinal Paulino and Marling Bonifacio Hernandez, resident in Santo Domingo, were arrested for assisting the foreigners in migrating illegally to the DR, as reported in Listin Diario.
