President Leonel Fernandez is on a 13-day tour of the US to establish high-level relationships with leading business executives, government and academic leaders interested in conducting and expanding relations with the DR.
In Austin, Texas yesterday he signed a collaboration agreement with the Austin Chamber of Commerce. He also met with executives of Whole Foods, the Presidency reported.
Fernandez also met with Texas Secretary of State Esperanza Andrade and with the Mayor of Austin Lee Leffingwell. The Presidency reported that Leffingwell commented that the visit was the start of closer relations between the State of Texas and the DR.
President Fernandez visited Dr. Johnny Butler, director of IC2 and a faculty member of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas, to explore technology venture incubation and regional growth acceleration. The IC2 Institute has been a leader in interdisciplinary cooperation for the purpose of transforming communities and countries to market economies. Since its inception, IC2 Institute has worked with the science cities of China on entrepreneurship projects in Japan, Poland, Egypt, Malta, Canada, Mexico and the US.
He also met with leaders at the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC), made up of 32 public universities in Texas.
