Celso Marranzini, executive vice president of the Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) says that the three Chilean managers hired to prepare the strategic plan for the power distribution companies have the responsibility for rescuing the distributors that are drowning in a US$720 million deficit. "I did not come here to fail," said Marranzini, who took up the post in August 2009.
As reported in Listin Diario, the new administrators are responsible for developing a strategic urgent action plan aimed at rescuing the companies. The plan needs to be presented in 45 days. Marranzini says that the executives will be paid as follows: Marcelo Silva at EdeSur, US$15,692.31 a month, Eduardo Saavedra at EdeNorte US$14,769.23 and Francisco Leiva at EdeEste US$14,769.23. The contracts also establish a 13th wage and conditioned annual bonuses of between US$68,000 and US$64,000 depending on whether they meet the agreed objectives. The contracts also establish benefits worth US$13,900, including US$2,000 a month for housing and US$1,000 for the education of each of their children who move to the DR.
Marranzini said these packages are lower than what the CDEEE was paying to advisors under the Segura administration. He mentioned the case of consultant Andy Dauhajre, "who billed US$250,000 to prepare a power point presentation". The contract establishes that they will not be able to be hired by any company related to the power distribution companies for three years after its expiration.
As reported in Hoy, the new general managers all expressed their commitment to increasing the collections of the three distribution companies. They said they would work to optimize expenses, reduce losses to zero and their goal is to make the government subsidy unnecessary. They expect to change the organization culture of the distributors.
Marranzini has announced that in the 2011 budget, the electricity sector deficit is only US$350 million, the lowest in many years.
