The government has sent an agreement to Congress for approval, concerning a donation of approximately 10,000 square meters of land, valued at RD$146 million to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, represented by Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez. For over 30 years, the Santo Cura de Ars church and school have been operating on the piece of land in question. It is located in Capotillo, on Nicolas de Ovando and Duarte avenues. The donation agreement was signed on 10 March. This donation comes at a time when Evangelical churches are petitioning for the annulment of the Concordat signed between the Dominican and Vatican states in 1954. The agreement establishes the Roman Catholic Church as official in the Dominican Republic and grants it specific privileges deemed contrary to the Dominican Constitution, according to the recourse presented in the Supreme Court of Justice.
