Eleven international organizations, the business sector, civil society and government officials have delivered a project to the Presidency titled "Anti-Corruption Participatory Initiative" (IPAC). The plan seeks to increase the levels of institutional integrity and reduce government corruption in the country. According to the World Economic Forum, the DR is ranked among the most corrupt countries in the world.
The proposal was presented to President Fernandez who last year asked international organizations to determine the levels of corruption in his government and requested their advice and assistance on combating corruption.
Participating were the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the European Union, the United Nations Development Program, the Organization of American States, and foreign embassies.
Among the suggestions for combating corruption is to implement Law 41-08, to fulfill Law 340-06 on Procurement, to implement a single account at the Treasury, and increase transparency levels.
The World Bank representative in the DR, Roby Senderowitsch announced that a second IPAC workshop would be held during the third week of October.
