The chief of the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the National Police in Santiago, Colonel Franklin A. Peralta Gonzalez has been arrested for suspected links to a drug delivery that was intercepted in the town of Licey al Medio together with 13 other people, including a Police sergeant and corporal. Santiago District Attorney Yenni Berenice Reynoso told Listin Diario reporters that she planned to ask the court to send the officer to protective custody for at least one year and for the case to be declared as "complex".
Because of the serious nature of the case, the heads of the National Police and the National Drug Control Department (DNCD) went to Santiago to oversee the apprehension of the suspects and the seizure of assets that included a boat, firearms, luxury vehicles and cash. Local word on the arrests says that agents wearing US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) identification accompanied the DNCD agents who made the initial arrests.
