The head of the National Drug Control Department (DNCD), Rolando Rosado Mateo, suffered multiple injuries in a car accident yesterday. The Toyota Land Cruiser SUV he was traveling in with his driver and assistant on their way back from Santiago had a tire blowout and flipped over. They had traveled to Santiago to be present when the Santiago narcotics department head was arrested. The accident occurred after 1pm at Kilometer 33 on the Duarte Highway, just a few meters past a spot known as the "Curve of Death".
The head of the DNCD was taken to the Armed Forces & Police General Hospital.
DNCD spokesman Ramon Alcides Rodriguez Veras said that head, cervical area and thorax scans, as well as stomach the right shoulder x-rays showed no major injuries. He said that the results showed a "lineal fracture of the sixth cervical vertebra with no displacement, a fracture of the right scapula and a fracture of the fourth rib on the right side."
