The Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) is struggling to get truckers to comply with the new ruling that establishes that heavy trucks can only travel in the right-hand lane. AMET agents were posted on expressways n Las Americas, 6 de Noviembre, Autovia del Este, Samana Highway and the Duarte Highway n to warn truckers who were not complying with the new rule. Owners need to verify that their trucks comply with rulings established in Law 241.
AMET spokesman Jose Jaquez told reporters that he had held a meeting with the leaders of the main truckers' unions, including Antonio Marte of Conatra and Blas Peralta of Fenatrado to discuss the new ruling, which is aimed at reducing accidents and saving fuel. He said the measure would be extended to all roads in the country to help reduce bottlenecks.
