PRSC politician Amable Aristy Castro has until 16 November to take the oath as Senator for La Altagracia province, as reported in Diario Libre. If he chooses not to do so, he could face a political hearing, be divested of his status as senator-elect and banned from being elected to the legislature for the next 10 years, according to Art. 88 of the 2010 Constitution.
In the past, Aristy has been elected senator for La Altagracia and preferred to choose a representative so he can continue at the helm of the Dominican Municipal League (LMD) that manages budgets for city governments nationwide.
The new Constitution establishes that if a legislator is not sworn in as senator by 16 November, their party can send three replacement suggestions for the Senate to choose from. The person elected to the Senate must be from the province, and a legal resident there for at least five consecutive years.
Aristy Castro was elected in the 16 May vote, but is the only senator not to have taken the oath.
