On occasion of the celebration of Santo Domingo as American Capital of Culture, leading Dominican architects are conducting tours of the architecture of Santo Domingo. The five-tour circuit starts with the Colonial City route. Appreciate Santo Domingo the first European city in the Americas, which went on to become the model for newer cities in other parts of the newly discovered continent. In the 16th Century, Santo Domingo was compared with Barcelona and Florence for its layout and architecture, and the city is now considered one of the major historic centers in the Americas. The route provides an insight into the origins of the city, its main characteristics and the role of the buildings in its social, religious, political and commercial life. The excursion meeting point is at the Alcazar de Colon Plaza at 9:45am on Sunday, 10 October. Tour departure is at 10am.
To make the route even better, on 10 October, Pat e Palo Restaurant, off the Alcazar de Colon Plaza is offering a special lunch menu for RD$500 plus taxes to participants. Reservations for the tour need to be made at Arbaje Tours Tel 809-535-4941.
It costs RD$500 and the fee needs to be paid no later than Friday at Arbaje Tours.
