The DR's total imports were US$7.27 billion in the first six months of the year, up 33.8% compared to last year. Of the total, fuel imports made up US$1.77 billion, a US$660.5 million increase. Most of the imports were consumer goods.
Diario Libre reports that of the total, machinery for manufacturing imported from the United States was only US$124 million, or 3.9%, compared to US$3.15 billion in consumer goods.
Trade with signatories of the DR-CAFTA agreement for the first half of the year totaled US$4.5 billion. Of this amount, US$3.15 billion were imports and US$1.35 exports.
