Herrera Association of Industries (AEIH) president Wadi Cano has called for consensus on the modification of the Law of Companies and said that minority groups were not interested in a custom fit change to the law. Cano says that while it is true that the legislation needs to be modified to correct errors and omissions he said he is opposed to changes without consensus. National Business Council president Lisandro Macarrulla has called for Congress to pass revisions to Law 479-08 that needs to be applied in December on the grounds that consensus was reached on the new draft. But Andres Vanderhorst of the National Competitiveness Council of, a leading promoter of the law, also denied there is consensus.
To change the law a wider consensus is needed, as happened in the beginning, and none of the interested parties or the government organizations, such as the National Competitiveness Council (CNC) and the Department of Taxes (DGII) that have played a key role should be ignored," said Cano. He favored improving the law but through a transparent and participative process. He said that the private sector, that demands transparency from the state, needed to lead by example, as reported in 7dias.com.do (http://7dias.com.do)
