Representatives of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala are united in challenging what they say is the DR's imposition of high tariffs on Central American imports. The DR and Central America are signatories of the DR-CAFTA and the Central American Free Trade Agreements.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration in the Guatemalan capital. Earlier this year a Dominican commission established a 40% tariff on dozens of items manufactured in Central America.
Hoy newspaper reports that the Central American nations are preparing a formal complaint at the World Trade Organization.
Guatemalan Deputy Economy Minister Raul Trejo said representatives of the four countries had met at the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration to discuss what they described as "the negative effects" of the Dominican imposition on intra-regional commerce.
