The efforts being made by the authorities to halt crime have not been able to prevent 87 civilian and five police deaths in the first two months of the new Police Chief's current administration. The Police fatalities included two officers. The daily reports that are issued by the National Police are full of bloody facts that show that violence, in all of its manifestations, still rules in the national territory. These numbers exceed the toll registered during the first 60 days of former Police Chief Major General Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin's term of office, when 42 civilians and only three policemen were killed.
According to Diario Libre, in this current administration Corporals Roberto Otano Medina and Jose Ogando Ramirez, as well as Second Lieutenant Martires Perez Diaz were murdered, and a fourth policeman, Sergeant Alejandro Alcantara Mateo, was wounded. Yesterday Lieutenant Fidel de Leon was killed. Weeks ago he had been wounded by criminals in Herrera. To this toll, the shooting death of Franklin de la Cruz Martinez (Momolo) has to be added; he was wanted in connection with the murder of three policemen in Los Girasoles.
