The National Police arrested four men in Bani on Saturday, and seized 702 bags (125 lbs. each) of refined sugar that had been stolen on Thursday on the highway near Juan Dolio by unknown subjects ('unsubs' in police parlance) who used a shotgun and left the truck driver and his helper tied up behind a wall. The police identified Reynaldo Emilio Mejia (Nayo), Franklin Campusano, Benjamin Reyes and Deri del Jesus Betancourt Mota (La Cocada 21) as the suspects in the case.
According to Hoy, the National Police say that the suspects used the shotgun that was seized to commit the robbery on the freightliner truck loaded with 800 bags of refined sugar when the driver pulled over to check the brakes. The alleged assailants were travelling in a red car.
After a police intelligence operation, they located Mejia (Nayo) in a colmado he owns in the Mayega section of Bani and discovered 702 bags of the stolen sugar. The police reported finding an "Akkarsahah Sanayu caliber 12 shotgun" that is suspect of having been used in the alleged raid. The stolen tractor-trailer was later found in the municipality of Pizzarete, Bani.
