Goodbye, Netherlands Antilles. Hello, Curaçao and St. Maarten.
Many of us were probably too distracted by the day's glorious 10-10-10 symmetry to notice, but yesterday the Caribbean locales Curaçao and St. Maarten, like Aruba before them, became “autonomous countries within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.” (http://www.government.nl/News/Press_releases_and_news_items/2010/September/_Constitutional_reform_of_Netherlands_Antilles_completed) The other three islands that constituted the late Dutch Antilles — Saba, St. Eustatius and Bonaire — have become “special municipalities” of the Netherlands.
If you're puzzled about what this actually means, you're not alone. The AP reports (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5jq-ceoag0S47ATm5KdinxCl4f_tAD9IP2TVG0?docId=D9IP2TVG0) “Some St. Maarten residents who showed up for the public celebration said they were confused about what the change in political status meant for their lives.”
While St. Maarten and Curaçao will have greater self-government, matters of defense and foreign policy are still under The Netherlands' jurisdiction, and according to the AP, citizens will retain Dutch passports.
In other, potentially more life-changing Curaçao news, the island might one day be your portal to space (http://www.wired.com/autopia/2010/10/carribbean-island-to-offer-rides-to-space/).

The words Dutch and Defense should never be in the same sentence. lol. I remember being in Krygystan with them and they, the french, and the british had their own mess tents. We ALWAYS snuck in the Dutches because they had the best food and they were cool as fuck about giving us alcohol. Unlike the US they didn't have ANY restriction on alcohol while ours was two beers every three days. The Dutch are cool as hell. What was my point again..... oh yeah, those fuckers NEVER went on combat missions. lol

As a chess player to a player : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Defence

Also countdown generator has to be updated with these flags:biggrin:

A travel tip: if you plan a trip during a peak hurricane season, don't forget that Curacao and Aruba are both off the track, unlike SXM.
