Dominican airport security has introduced the new stricter limits on carry-on items following the foiled terror plot on aircraft flying from Britain to the United States. Effective as of yesterday by order of Cuerpo Especializado de Seguridad Aeroportuaria (CESA), the airport security department, passengers may not carry liquid or gel containers of any size at the screening checkpoint or in the aircraft cabin. This includes alcohol, other beverages, shampoo, suntan lotion, creams, toothpaste, hair gel and other items of similar consistency. Such items may be transported in checked baggage.
Passengers may still have baby formula, breast milk or juice if a baby or small child is traveling. Prescription medicines along with a prescription slip bearing a name that matches the passenger's ticket/passport are also permitted, along with insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines.
Beverages purchased in the sterile area must be consumed before boarding the aircraft. Airport authorities advise to not bring liquids to the airports of the Dominican Republic as they will be confiscated by security. All airports in the DR and other worldwide locations are affected.
Passengers are urged to travel with as few carry on items as possible in order to expedite the screening process and facilitate travel.
With the additional security measures, passengers will undergo more extensive screenings and are required to be at the airport for check-in three hours before departure.
The new measures temporarily affected the first flights once it was implemented yesterday, but El Caribe reports that there were no flight cancellations.
