The Chamber of Accounts increased its payroll by RD$48 million in 13 months, and that total does not include wages for non-fixed personnel, special services or professional services. From RD$9 million in per-diem and representation expenditures spent from 2004-2005, the department increased its spending to RD$22 million for 2005-2006, according to a report in Diario Libre.
Among the spending chapter of the Chamber of Accounts, Diario Libre mentions from RD$424,502 allotted to cover travel expenses in 2004-2005, the government office increased this three-fold to RD$1,289,378. The Chamber of Accounts is the government department in charge of auditing government spending.
The recent Central Bank report showed that government spending in general was up 28% for the first half of the year, with revenues only up 16%.
