Three months after the death of student Eduardo Rodriguez, who was run over by a vehicle that was drag racing on Santo Domingo's 27 de Febrero avenue, another case is making headlines. Listin Diario reports that Jesus Vizcaino, a mailman who worked for the Dominican Postal Service (Inposdom) was killed after his motorcycle was run over by two racing cars on Winston Churchill avenue. 54-year old Vizcaino died of his injuries on Wednesday at the Clinica Dr. Richardson Cruz. Vizcaino was married and had six children. He was waiting for a traffic light to change at the intersection between Winston Churchill avenue and Paseo de los Locutores in Evaristo Morales. The two vehicles dragged him through when passing the red light, according to the Metropolitan Transport Authority AMET. At the time of his death, he was delivering the early morning mail.
The director of the Postal service, Modesto Guzman called on Police chief Bernardo Santana Paez to prosecute those responsible for Vizcaino's death.
His death brings Eduardo Rodriguez' case back to the forefront. Rumors are that while the person suspect for running him over is known to the authorities, he is being protected because he is related to a high-up government officer.
Eduardo Rodriguez' mother, Felicia Rodriguez, said that the so-called "jevitos," the youths that ran over her son, are terrorists who will never have to feel the weight of the law since they occupy high-status positions. "Their parents are as guilty as they are, because they give them everything. They are those who put the murder weapon in their sons' hands when they buy them the vehicles and let them hit the streets without supervision. She said that if the authorities had been interested in finding the person who is guilty of her son's murder, they would have been arrested long ago, but instead they are being treated as if they were above the law. Eduardo Rodriguez was killed when the vehicle driven by a "jevito" who was competing in a race at 8:30 pm on 11 May. Eduardo Rodriguez was studying medicine at the UASD. He was the son of doctor and pilot Juan Ramon Rodriguez and doctor Felicia Rodriguez.
