Mayor Roberto Salcedo, city government officers and executives of the Santo Domingo Hotels Association met at the City Municipality (ADN) offices yesterday to discuss improvements to the Malecon seafront avenue, on the occasion of the celebration of the important Florida Caribbean Cruise Association Conference in Santo Domingo from 25 to 30 October, as reported in El Dia. An estimated 600 key executives from Florida and Caribbean cruise ship companies will meet in Santo Domingo for the annual event.
Julio Llibre, president of the National Hotel & Restaurant Association, Edmundo Aja of Hoteles Hodelpa and Roberto Henriquez, president of the Santo Domingo Hotels Association were at the meeting with the Mayor.
Representing the city government in addition to the mayor were secretary general Domingo Contreras, technical director Andres Navarro, president of the councilors Winni Terrero and Mayor's assistant Ruddy Gonzalez.
Salcedo told the press that the work on cleaning up Guibia beach and security and lighting of the avenue would be stepped up.
Salcedo said that mitigating the pollution of the Ozama and Isabela Rivers that affects the ports of Sans Souci and Santo Domingo posed a challenge for the Greater Santo Domingo city governments and for the central government.
