The Dominican women's volleyball team has won the First Unique Cup in Peru, making a total of four wins in its most recent international competitions. Peru placed second and Puerto Rico third in the event.
The Dominican team defeated the Peruvian team 3-1 to win the championship. The DR six won gold in the PanAm Volleyball Cup in May, the Mayaguez Central American and Caribbean Games, and at the Final Four Cup in Chiapas, Mexico. The team won 25-19, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-17 in Peru.
Listin Diario reports that team captain Milagros Cabral sat out most of the game.
The championship was part of the preparation for Dominican participation in the Women's World Volleyball Championship on 29 October in Japan. The DR will play China, Russia, South Korea, Turkey and Canada in the Pool D of the event that will take place in Osaka.
Cristobal Marte, president of the National Volleyball Teams Project, said that the team would travel to Japan on October 14 to begin training for the important commitment where 24 of the best teams of the world will be competing.
