The Governor of Puerto Rico is heading a multi-sectorial Puerto Rican business mission made up of 40 companies that seek to increase exports and business in Santo Domingo on 13-14 October. Traveling with Luis Fortuno are the secretary of the Department of State Kenneth D. McClintock, the secretary of the Department of Economic Development Jose Ramon Perez-Riera and the presidents of the five leading business groups in the country n College of Engineers and Surveyors, Association of Industrialists, Association of Producers, Chamber of Commerce and Center for United Retailers. The mission is a follow-up visit to the Strategic Alliance between the two island-countries that seeks to increase trade, promote economic growth, jobs and development.
In a statement from the Fortaleza, the seat of government in Puerto Rico: "The Dominican Republic is part of our natural market and one of the leading trading partners with Puerto Rico. Our similarities and the competitive advantages that we have to foster bilateral trade, strengthen our companies and diversify our economy make us natural partners. Our focus has been clear and constant: achieve a stable and competitive economy on a global level. For this the private sector needs to have the resources necessary so that it can be the axis for the recovery. This mission to the DR is an initiative that contributes significantly to promote exports of goods and services of the island, diversify the economy and bolster the competitiveness of the business class," said Fortuno in the statement.
He highlighted the fact that the leaders of five major business groups are traveling with the mission. Furthermore, he said that the Secretary of Economic Development would make presentations on investment opportunities in Puerto Rico to investment groups in the DR. They will outline incentives for the purchase of housing, energy reform, projects for public-private alliances and strategic projects of the Fortuno Administration.
His agenda in Santo Domingo includes meetings with President Leonel Fernandez, the Ministry of Foreign Relations, US Embassy staff, also previously made appointments for participating companies, a workshop on doing business in the DR and visits to Dominican businesses.
