Minister of Hacienda Vicente Bengoa has revealed that budget adjustments need to be made in order to accommodate the Constitutional Tribunal, the People's Defender (Ombudsman) and the Electoral Tribunal, expected to begin work in 2011. He re-stated his pledge that no new taxes would be created.
Interviewed as he left President Leonel Fernandez's office, Bengoa also revealed that the Dominican Republic would not be collecting the entire US$130 million sale price for the 49% stake in the Dominican National Refinery (Refidomsa) after all. Bengoa said that US$30 million would go to pay back some of the money Venezuela had loaned to the DR so that the country could purchase the 50% of the refinery that was owned by the Shell Company. The minister said that the US$100 million should begin to arrive here starting on 20 October.
