President Leonel Fernandez has joined fellow world leaders in congratulating Chilean President Sebastian Pinera on the successful rescue of the 33 miners in Chile. "We rejoice with the rest of the world for the success of this operation that has brought these 33 men back to life. Only the favor of God, the will of the authorities and the cooperation of a people could produce such positive results," said Fernandez. He said that from the DR the Dominican people followed this tribute to perseverance, faith and unity day by day.
Meanwhile, the president of the PRD political party Miguel Vargas Maldonado said he had sent a letter of congratulations to Pinera and cigars manufactured by E. Leon Jimenes to the miners. The cigars will be delivered to the Dominican Embassy in Chile by a committee made up of Vargas' wife, Angelita Garcia, their son Miguel Paul and PRD communications director Wilfredo Alemany.
