The Fernandez administration is holding talks with the French Agency for Development for financing of the second line of the Santo Domingo Metro, which is already in advanced state of construction. President Leonel Fernandez requested the funding when he visited President Nicolas Sarkozy in December 2009. El Nuevo Diario reports that Louis Jacques Vaillant, director general of the French agency for Latin America and the Caribbean said that there is a possibility that the EUR250 million financing could be included in the French budget for 2011. Of the financing, US$80-US$100 million would go for reorganizing transit in Santo Domingo, primarily the Metro 2 project. El Nuevo Diario reports that a mission from the French Development Agency is in Santo Domingo for discussions. The agency provided EUR65 million in funding for the Dominican government in 2010 and EUR100 million in 2009.
