Archaeologists Harold Olsen and Jorge Ulloa will travel to Puerto Plata to investigate the discovery of what is thought to be a pyramid dating back to pre-Columbian times. They will be accompanied by geologist Tabare Mundaray and a photographer. Cristian Martinez, director of the Museum of Dominican Man made the announcement during the opening of the 4th National Congress on Archaeology and Anthropology taking place at the Museum of Dominican Man 12-14 October.
Reports are of a possible finding in La Guaita, Puerto Plata of ruins of what could be an Indian ceremonial center. Martinez said that the rocks could just be a geological formation.
There is speculation that the large rock placement could be Indian ruins similar to those found in Guatemala and Mexico.
Martinez said the team of experts would rule out if the rocks are just a geological formation.
