Songwriter Juan Luis Guerra was in Haiti yesterday for the start of construction of a children's hospital. Guerra organized a concert in Santo Domingo in April that also featured international Latin stars Juanes, Miguel Bose, Alejandro Sanz and Enrique Iglesias, and Dominicans Milly Quezada, Johnny Ventura and Maridalia Hernandez.
The sum of US$2.5 million raised by the concert is going towards funding the construction of the hospital. The project is being implemented by a Dominican non-governmental organization, Sur Futuro, in partnership with the Catholic Nunciate of Haiti, and the International NGO Catholic Relief Services.
