President Leonel Fernandez visited Elias Pina on the border with Haiti yesterday, where he led a Development Council meeting and listened to complaints about unmet promises by his cabinet officials from local people.
The President announced RD$400 million worth of spending for the remainder of the year. He said RD$370 million would go towards the construction of plant nurseries for farm products and RD$20 million for loans to small businesses, at an interest rate of 10%. The loans will be made through Promipyme, the government body that supports small and medium sized businesses.
Fernandez said that the Juan Pablo Duarte public school at Comendador and a high school in Juan Santiago municipality would be completed, as reported in Diario Libre. He promised to return to review the progress of these public works on 19-20 December.
