The members of the Dominican Association of Foreign Investment (Asiex) expect more than US$10 billion to be invested in the DR in the next five years. The president of Asiex, Marcos de la Rosa (AES Dominicana) was speaking at an event marking the association's 25th anniversary. They recognized the role of Asiex founders Central Romana, Codetel, Falconbridge, Alcoa and Citibank. Asiex says that one of the association's greater achievements was Law 16-95 that replaced Law 8-61. De la Rosa said that after the law was changed, foreign investment increased from an average of US$200 million a year to US$2 billion. He said that prior to 1995, foreign investment totaled around US$1.7 billion. Since the change in the law, total foreign investment in the DR has grown to around US$18.5 billion. During the event, they recognized Eddy Martinez Manzuela, director of the Center for Exports & Investments (CEI-RD) and President Leonel Fernandez for their support for foreign investment.
