Two murder witnesses have been killed in a drug-related case in Higuey. As reported in Diario Libre and Hoy, the victims were 84-year old Juan Emilio, mayor of Batey Maragua, a rural community in the Higuey municipality, and 26-year old Julito Telemaco Yan. Diario Libre reports that they were murdered shortly after leaving a court hearing on the murder of 27-year old Jofren Castillo Rosario, linked to a drug shipment back in May.
Emilio was hit by five gunshots in several parts of his body, while Telemaco received six. Telemaco was free on bail after being arrested for Castillo Rosario's death. The police reported that the three attackers who shot the men drove away in a grey Lexus SUV. 52-year old Hilda Telemaco, mother of Julito was injured in the incident. She told police that Army Sergeant Henry Perez had fired at her son, while brothers Wascar and Alexander Castillo del Rosario held her back. The Police arrested Perez for questioning and are on the trail of the Rosario brothers, as reported in Hoy.
