The National Zoo is celebrating this Saturday, 16 October its first Festival of Raptor Birds. Among the most common local raptor birds are the Osprey (Guincho) and the Peregrine Hawk that was chosen the emblem of the Festival.
The festival is a joint effort of the Ornithological Society of Hispaniola, the Ministry of Environment and the Zoo. It seeks to make students and the general public aware of how important these birds are to the ecosystem. The activity commemorates the International Month of Migratory Birds. Festival activities have been organized for all day on Saturday at the Santo Domingo Zoo (Zoodom).
