Lieutenant Anatalio Ogando was riding his motorbike to work when he noticed three young men assaulting another man who had been fishing on the rocks off the 30 de Mayo Highway at Kilometer 9. It turned out that the three had just killed retired Police officer Anastasio Castro Mota, 69, and stolen his weapon. In the ensuing shootout, the Police Second Lieutenant shot and killed one of the assailants and wounded another. The third man managed to escape.
According to a report in El Nuevo Diario, the Police say that Castro Mota was fishing along with a friend, Radhames Alde Jimenez, 58, who told them that the three assailants had approached the two elderly men and demanded the keys to Castro's motorcycle. When Castro told them he was armed they took his weapon and killed him. The police recovered a Bersa 9mm automatic along with the Browning 9mm that belonged to the former officer. The Bersa was registered to Francisco Marien Lopez Burgos.
