Supreme Court of Justice president Jorge Subero is proposing a national meeting to discuss the causes behind the increasing rise of crime in the DR. The long-serving head of the Supreme Court expressed concern that drug trafficking has been gaining more and more ground in the country every year and crime is increasing to serious levels.
He said it is easy to blame the Penal Procedures Code, but insisted the problem has social roots, and therefore the need for the diagnostics conference.
Impunity for criminals as a result of all the red tape now involved the legal system is also one of the main reasons cited by experts. Subero Isa is the president of the government's Judicial Branch.
