Senator Wilton Guerrero, the first senior government figure to speak out about the inter-government alliance with drug traffickers and crime, has denounced the fact that an association of criminals headed by the provincial prosecutors and made up of lawyers, police and judges who take bribes to favor drug traffickers and other criminals is operating in Monte Plata province.
Guerrero (PLD-Peravia) called on prosecutor general Radhames Jimenez Pena to order an investigation into what is happening in that province.
As reported in Hoy, Guerrero says that a similar situation of complicity is happening in his own province. He said that with more support, Bani prosecutor Roberto Lugo Betances could be more efficient in fighting organized crime and drug trafficking. He said a case was presented to the prosecutor general of Bani accusing two police agents of directing gangs of criminals. He said that the prosecutor general has shelved the case without explanation.
Guerrero said that, "a systematic evaluation and purge of the prosecutors needs to be made to remove the rotten apples."
